NCBA and Royal Collins India, China Publishing Association co-organized Sino-India Book Publishing Program in India International Center. The chief guest was Mr. Sun Shoushan, Vice Minister, State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television ( SAPPRFT ). The honor guest was Shri Baldeo Bhai Sharma, Chairman, NBT. The function was chaired by Mr. Bob Song, the new Chairman of Afro-Asian Book Council and the President of Royal Collins Publishing Group. Over 60 publishers from India and China took part in the function.

 

The session started with the awards of friendship by Mr. Sun Shoushan and Shri Baldeo Bhai Sharma. China and India are the two oldest civilizations in the world. As the biggest neighbor countries, the cooperation between China and India publishing industry has great potential. “ But frankly, the scale of the cooperation is not too big during the last four years. So it’s a good timing to start this because China is the honor guest country of New Delhi World Book Fair.” Said by Shri Amitabha Sen, Chairman, NCBA Group.
As the first Indian publisher who visited China in 1980, Shri Sukumar Das, formerly President of Federation of Publishers and Booksellers Association of India, went over his working experience with his Chinese partner, CNPIEC, the biggest Chinese importer. And he called on Chinese publishers to cooperate with India publishers in a big way.

 

Shri Baldeo Bhai Sharma, Chairman, NBT made a speech in Hindi, he said NBT was very happy to see that more Chinese publishers are willing to publish Chinese books in Hindi language and translate more Hindi books in Chinese. He hopes that more Chinese publishers could keep on developing the cooperation with Indian publishers.

 

Mr. He Zumin, VP of SPM, and Ms. Lin Bin, VP of Fujian Publishing Group represented the Chinese publishing industry to make a speech. They said that India has a splendid culture and important position in the Indian Ocean, these two big Chinese group companies will try to expand the cooperation with Indian publishers. SPM is a listed publishing company in China, the revenue of this company is more than 100 billion INR per year.

 

“China is the second largest publishing market in the world, India is the third English publication market in the world. We believe that the combination of China and India is the most splendid market. So we hope that more Chinese publishers will keep on focusing on the Indian market. Under this way, we hope NBT or other departments of Indian government should try to do something to promote Indian publishing industry in China”, said by Mr. Bob Song, Chairman of Afro-Asian Book Council.

 

To encourage more Chinese publishers to focus on Indian market, Sino-India Book Publishing Program has recommended top 10 excellent Chinese publishers in the Indian market. They all received the awards of excellence by Mr. Sun Shoushan and Shri Baldeo Bhai Sharma.

 

They are the Chinese People’s Publishing House, the Chinese Commercial Press, the Publishing House of Electronic Industry, Anhui Publishing Group, Zhejiang Publishing United Group, Guangdong Publishing Group, China Intercontinental Press, Fujian Publishing Group, Jiangxi Publishing Group and Sichuan People’s Publishing House.
